The tragedy of people getting shot at a showing of The Dark Knight Rises, is not a random, incomprehensible event. Mass shootings, like the one that just happened in Aurora, have become a recurrent nightmare that haunts the collective psyche. As the nightmare repeats, we see patterns emerging. Movies are a collective dream delivery technology. Some movies that have high access to the contents of the collective unconscious, are what Charles Fort called “window zones,” or portals between realms, and weird and uncanny things happen in their wake. Particularly, movies about dark, occult things have a long history of these crossover effects.

Just recorded a commercial free 75 minute interview with Serious Wonder Media.  Gray Scott, the interviewer, was very perceptive and asked some great questions. As part of our discussion of visual telepathy he shared  a personal experience of telepathic boundary dissolution during an ayahuasca experience. We discussed quite a variety of subjects from ufology to the universe as simulation and the intentionality of the Singularity Archetype. (Owl at the 2009 National Rainbow Gathering in New Mexico) I’m still writing this and inviting comments so come back and check again soon as this memorial expands in content.  Jonathan 9:30 am 2/19/12 David “Owl” Kopelman 1963-2012 Owl was, above all, an unforgettable character, and since there was always a level of performance art about the way he lived his life, he was an outstanding success in leaving an indelible tie-dye colored impression in the minds of a great many people. Since he was also a no-holds-barred, in-your-face kind of a person it would be absurd to memorialize him with sentimental idealization instead of how he actually was—-a funny, brilliant, appalling, offensive, intense, hilarious, abrasive, hygiene-challenged, imaginative, grandiose, gregarious, exaggerator, story-teller, door-to-door cartoon salesman, serial true believer in multi-level marketing schemes, political iconoclast, singer-songwriter guitarist, Ron Paul-debunking, social networking, extremely loud and opinionated, networked video game playing, gas-station-microwave-burrito-eating kind of a guy. With both misgivings and excitement I followed Adrian into the cave, our headlamps casting dense shadows amidst the illuminated surfaces of jagged rock. Adrian’s fantastic tale of an antique bronze ship of some sort secreted in an antechamber of this still largely unexplored cavern was impossible to resist, but also filled me with doubts and fears. Could it be that Adrian’s quirky and quicksilver personality had tipped over some edge and twisted to where he might be luring me to a claustrophobic, Cask of Amontillado fate?

I couldn’t smell anything from the mostly neglected bongs and unused bowls of giant kola buds, because the air was heavy with the olfactory cacophony of expensive perfumes and colognes, musks and nocturnal blends meant to be seductive and alluring, but which when thrown together in one giant air space merged into a single musky incencse that if marketed, would be sold in black glass flasks labeled “Obsession Bardo” or “Carnival of the Hungry Ghosts.” If you listen to the podcast make sure you check the online document for a couple of epilogues that have altered the meaning of this descent into decadence.

Zones of inner jeopardy (ZIJ) are those familiar times when we are inwardly stressed, our thoughts and emotions are agitated, and we may be enveloped by dark moods. The causes of ZIJ are various, and usually there are multiple causes such as metabolic disequilibria, social/sexual issues, financial hardship, disturbances in the force and so forth.”ZIJ” is used in this essay to refer to both zones of inner jeopardy and a way of dealing with them.

Awakening from uneasy dreams, I was aware of myself as a self-reflecting starship. For a few moments I lingered in that warpy place between dreams and wakefulness, still feeling partly caught up in some painful drama with another starship that had played itself out as I slept. Slowly the dream faded, and the waking consciousness returned—that all-too-familiar sense of myself as a middle-aged starship, about halfway through its lifecycle in an era where well-maintained starships often lasted a century.
