I notice that Facebook is filled with mother's day messages today. My parents, who were originally socialists, or at least my dad was, he was a leader of a DeLeonist Socialist Faction in the late 40s and into the 50s, were adamantly opposed to the celebration of mother's day and father's day because they were essentially commercial holidays designed to create money for greeting card companies, department stores, etc. According to Wikipedia, Anna Jarvis, the woman who originally created Mother's Day, campaigned against what it became: "The commercialization of the American holiday began very early, and only nine years after the first official Mother's Day had become so rampant that Anna Jarvis herself became a major opponent of what the holiday had become,[23][24] spending all her inheritance and the rest of her life fighting what she saw as an abuse of the celebration.[23] She decried the practice of purchasing greeting cards, which she saw as a sign of being too lazy to write a personal letter. She was arrested in 1948 for disturbing the peace while protesting against the commercialization of Mother's Day, and she finally said that she "...wished she would have never started the day because it became so out of control ..."[24] She died later that year."

However, Mother's Day is now one of the most commercially successful American occasions, having become the most popular day of the year to dine out at a restaurant in the United States[25] and generating a significant portion of the U.S. jewelry industry's annual revenue, from custom gifts like mother's rings.[26] Americans spend approximately $2.6 billion on flowers, $1.53 billion on pampering gifts—like spa treatments—and another $68 million on greeting cards.

Zap Oracle Right you should do that, because your mom is into it. My mom is isn't, I'm not telling others what to do, just my family's perspective

My niece Bernadette sent me a video of our recently deceased friend Jack Savage. Jack showed Bernadette around Boulder when she visited, sometime in 2010. She's the same age as Jack (both were born in 1989). She took this video clip with a camera I gave her when she arrived in Boulder. I play the straight man to Jack's comedic self in a moment in which he is creating a spontaneous riff on what would happen if Leonard Cohen and Barak Obama had a baby. It ends with Jack saying he needs a Jungian analyst. Jack's last line is: "I need a Goldberg" He's referring to a friend of mine, Jonathan Goldberg, a Jungian analyst in his 70s. Strangely, I was just visiting with him
( Isee him an average of 3 times a year) yesterday. He also looks at the camera during the brief video and says "you stand guiltless in your predicament" which was a nice, if out of context, statement for Jack's survivors.

Hi I read that you are gathering videos of Jack for an extension to the memorium and I remembered I uploaded this once from the camera you gave me when I went to visit:

As short as his writing career was, Jack Savage was one of the greatest poets of his generation, the millennial generation. His poems are the voice of the soul, sometimes celebratory, often struggling with the darkness of the world, always profound. http://www.zaporacle.com/savage-reflections-the-poems-of-jack-savage/

Savage Reflections—-The poems of Jack Savage

Among other talents, Jack was a brilliant poet, and for a while he had a section on this website called “Savage Reflections” which he allowed me to build for him with some of his best poems. Later Jack asked me to take it down, but I kept all the poems and am reposting them here, as well as many oth...

Zap Oracle After spending more time with the poems the last few days, I believe Jack was, and is, on of the greatest poetic voices of his generation. It's not that I've read so many millennial generation poets, it's a general feeling I have based on the power with which Jack's poetic voice is the voice of the soul. Sometimes this poetic voice is celebratory, at other times it is struggling and even tormented. But it is always profound, authentic, accessible and deeply present with the reader. Jack's voice has a presence, and emotional immediacy and intimacy with a sympathetic reader that is comparable to Walt Whitman, who was Jack's greatest poetic inspiration. Jack's poems, even the ones that he wrote when he was 19, do not seem like an awkward, adolescent attempt at being Whitmanesque. They are alike, because both poets are voices of the soul. To experience these poems is an opportunity to hear the voice of the soul, a voice that gets drowned out by the noisy bustle and haste of modern life. The voice of the soul is not always happy. It can experience glorious ecstasies and transcendence--Jack's poems are filled with jeweled and glowing examples of this sort of divine exuberance. But the voice of the soul can also be the voice of the dark night of the soul, and Jack had his share of those to tell of too. When you read these poems, draw close to them, sit across from this voice with a glass of wine or tea, it will be a very deep and intimate conversation.

On October 12, 2012 Jonathan gave a talk on the Singularity Archetype and the evolutionary event horizon at the Boulder Evolver. The first 40 minutes are available as two Youtubes:

    Part 1: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c7CfJP7zq6s

    Part 2: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uEFmT8U4fwU

Time Monk Radio did a 175 minute commercial free interview with me that was the most thorough interview I’ve ever done. There were several interviewers in various countries (all available in realtime on Skype). We covered the Singularity Archeytpe, psychopathy, mind parasites, dynamic paradoxicalism and many other topics.

Please check the services page, a number of new services have been added.

    Television/Radio Interview Schedule:

My last two Coast-to-Coast interviews were on 2/25/12 with John B. Wells and 7/13/11 with George Noory. If you are a Coast Insider you can listen to the archive.

3/17/12 The Edge with Daniel Ott

With 5 interviews scheduled in a 4 week period I didn’t look too closely at the background of the interviewers. This one turned out to be a right wing, indoor-cowboy- hat-wearing, science-hating, Obama-demonizing birther which brought out the confrontational Bronx side of my personality.

You might find the result an hilarious conflict of types:

I did three interviews with Mike Hagan of Radio Orbit. Here are the links to three interviews followed by an image Radio Orbit photoshopped from an actual photo of me sitting on a bengal tiger (oh, and in response to several inquiries—this tiger was not being abused, was not chained up—I worked for many years at the Prairie Wind Animal Refuge (where the photo was taken and which is now under new management) where we rescued tigers and other big cats from guaranteed hunts and other abusive situations. This particular tiger loved interacting with people and was exceptionally well trained.

Rob Brezsny , author, visionary, and musician whose syndicated column appears in more than 200 newspapers says “One of my favorite thinkers and writers is my friend Jonathan Zap. His vision is simultaneously cosmic and intimate, shocking and healing. Jonathan has created the Zap Oracle, a source you can use to do divinations for yourself. Because he has such a cagey, interesting, and holy mind, I trust the spirit behind his oracles."
Rob also endorses Jonathan's dream interpretation service. In his weekly newsletter he wrote:
"Jonathan Zap, Visionary Philosopher and Dream Worker Extraordinaire. The best dream worker I've ever known.
Over the years, I've had the pleasure of working on my dreams with some fine dream workers, but recently I discovered the best ever. His name is Jonathan Zap.

Highly intuitive, schooled in the wisdom of archetypes, and really smart, Jonathan has helped me crack the codes of some of my major dreams. His cost is quite reasonable, too. I exuberantly recommend his services.

(He's not even paying me to say this. I'm simply motivated by the desire to share his treasure with my readers.) "

Tima Vlasto, a free lance writer and translator from Athens, Greece who writes a column for the Examiner says of the Zap Oracle:

"... it has been a more positively transformative experience for me than any other form of inner searching I have done…and I have done a lot! It unabashedly touches and presses on every wound, every bright light, every hidden corner, and in such blunt honesty, that at the moment it “speaks," there is no way to not face, absorb, realize and embrace those shadows that block the “connection”…and confirms, so readily like a snapshot of the “matrix dynamics” at that moment, one’s intuition. It is a great oracle."
